How could Wie get straight A's in the classroom?

I chuckled just a little today when I read this article about Michelle Wie getting into Stanford. When I was in high school, one had to be a brainiac or a superior athlete to get into Stanford. Not only did you need straight A's, but you had to have taken a huge load of AP classes, get a ridiculously high SAT score, be involved in a ton of extracurricular activities, and have a little bit of luck thrown in for good measure.

Obviously since Michelle is not eligible to play golf at the college level, her golf skills could not have gotten her into the school. So, she's either a rare brain, or Stanford has let her in because of her celebrity. I would imagine that the latter had more to do with it.

She's been touring the world playing golf for the past four years, and everyone knows that being out of the classroom that much is hardly conducive with being a top student. I don't feel it's unfair that she got in; rather it's just a bit curious. On the bright side, it looks like she values education enough to at least give it a shot and try to balance college life with professional golf. I can't imagine it's going to work very well, but more power to her.

I think it is a crock of you know what!! Some poor kid has been working their behind off for four years and didn't get in because they accepted Wi instead. It is definately b/c of her celebrity. When did Wi even have time to take the SAT'S or the ACT'S? Give me a break!!

p.s.

Can someone get me Rob Collins e-mail? I need to get his parents address for my mom.

Tali-
I sort of agree with you. There's no way she could have the grades or the test scores to get in on pure academic merit.

Either Harley or Nourse has Collins' email address. I also think Nourse knows where his parents live (in Merrillville, IN).
